He may be New Zealand’s newest Master of Wine, but Malaysian born kiwi, Stephen Wong, has long been a key person in Wellington’s hospitality scene. Over the past 15 years he’s moved from vineyard worker to sommelier to wine show judge across New Zealand and Australia, while working behind the scenes with restaurants and hotels in New Zealand and Singapore on their wine lists and training. Since gaining his letters, Stephen has taken on more formal educational duties, teaching wine for the Cordon Bleu degree programme, coordinating the MW Australasian Educational Seminar and being frontman for NZ Wine masterclasses in China. He spends most of his time running a small group of freelancers in Wellington known as Wine Sentience who focus on wine list consulting, wine workshops, hospitality education and research into wine communication.

Gabrielle Webster is one of Australia’s most highly awarded female Sommeliers.

Webster’s wine lists have been awarded best Wine Bar List and Best Short Wine List in the Australian Wine List Awards.  Formally of Wine Bar ‘Love, Tilly Devine’ Webster is an active member of the Sydney wine community.  She was on the management team for Sydney’s first natural wine and food fair – Rootstock.  She was a member of one of the first teams in ‘Wine- Baptism of Fire’ and a founding member of the Women in Wine Society.  Webster is now the Head Sommelier at Iconic Icebergs Dining Room and Bar where she has recently launched her new wine list for the venue.

Over the past decade, Caitlin Perlman (Sommelier) has been building her career in food and wine with stints in North America, Europe and New Zealand. After completing a culinary program in France, Caitlin accepted an internship at the two Michelin starred L’Oxalys. Caitlin provides support to Wine Sentience Wellington while also leading events for both the wine trade and the wine drinkers.
